Cable Tray Cover
Definition
Cable tray covers are a key component of cable tray systems. They typically cover the cable tray troughs (such as trough-type or tray-type trays), forming a closed or semi-closed structure to protect the cables (power cables, control cables, communication cables, etc.) laid inside the tray and improve system safety and organization.
Core Functions
1. Cable Protection:
Dust and water protection (especially outdoors or in humid environments), corrosion protection (avoiding chemical corrosion), protection against mechanical damage (such as heavy object impacts or foot traffic), and protection against small animal (rodents, insects) gnawing, extending cable lifespan.
Reduces the aging effects of external environmental factors (such as temperature changes and ultraviolet radiation) on cable insulation.
2. Safety Protection:
Prevents accidental contact with live parts (improving electrical safety), or slows the spread of flames in the event of a fire (fire-resistant covers).
Secures cables, preventing them from falling off or short-circuiting due to vibration or displacement.
3. Neatness and Aesthetics:
Makes the cable tray system neater overall, facilitating later maintenance (such as inspection, cable addition/removal), especially suitable for places with high requirements for environmental aesthetics (such as office buildings, commercial buildings).

Classification and Material Characteristics
Based on material and function, it can be divided into the following main types, with different types suitable for different scenarios:
(I) Classification by Material
1. Steel Cover Plate
Material: Cold-rolled steel plate (surface galvanized, powder coated, painted, or hot-dip galvanized).
Characteristics: High strength, strong load-bearing capacity (can withstand light loads above), moderate cost; but requires anti-corrosion treatment (galvanizing/powder coating can improve rust resistance).
o Applicable Scenarios: Dry indoor environments (such as industrial plants, office buildings), areas with strength requirements.
2. Aluminum Alloy Cover Plate
Material: 6063-T5 and other aluminum alloy profiles (surface anodized or powder coated).
Characteristics: Lightweight (only 1/3 the weight of steel), corrosion resistant (especially resistant to moisture and slight chemical corrosion), high aesthetics, and easy installation.
3. **Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Cover Plate**
Material: Glass fiber reinforced resin matrix composite material.
Characteristics: Excellent insulation (non-conductive), resistant to strong acids and alkalis (pH 1-14), high temperature resistance (-50℃~120℃), lightweight, but slightly less rigid than metal.
Suitable for: Chemical plants, electroplating workshops, coastal high-salt-spray environments, and highly corrosive environments.
4. PVC Cover Plate
Material: Polyvinyl chloride (with added flame retardants).
Characteristics: Good insulation, low cost, easy installation, acid and alkali resistant but poor high-temperature resistance (long-term operating temperature ≤60℃), lower mechanical strength.
Suitable for: Indoor low-voltage systems (such as communication and network cables), dry low-load environments.
5. Other special materials: such as stainless steel covers (ultra-high corrosion resistance, suitable for cleanrooms in food and pharmaceutical industries), and fireproof rock wool composite covers (built-in flame-retardant materials enhance fire resistance).
(II) Classification by Function
1. Ordinary covers: Basic protection type, meeting dustproof, light waterproof, and mechanical protection requirements, suitable for general indoor environments.
2. Fireproof covers: Contains flame retardants (such as aluminum hydroxide) or composite fireproof layers (such as rock wool, ceramic fiber), passing fire resistance tests such as GB/T 19216.21-2003, with a fire resistance limit of 0.5~2 hours, suitable for places with high fire protection requirements (such as high-rise buildings, subways, tunnels).
3. Rainproof covers: Adopting an arc-shaped or drainage groove design, combined with sealing strips, to enhance waterproof performance (IP54/IP65), suitable for outdoor use (such as street light cables, substations).
4. Lockable covers: Integrated with locks (such as pin tumbler locks, combination locks) to prevent unauthorized opening and protect important cables (such as data centers, security systems).
5. Mesh Cover: Utilizing a metal mesh or grid structure, it combines protection and heat dissipation, suitable for scenarios with high cable heat dissipation requirements (such as high-power power cables).

Installation Points
1. Compatibility: The cover size must match the cable tray specifications (width, height) to avoid excessive gaps affecting the protective effect.
2. Installation Methods:
Snap-on Type:Quickly fixed using plastic or metal snap-on clips, convenient for installation and disassembly (suitable for indoor light-load scenarios).
Bolt Fixing:Uses stainless steel or galvanized bolts (500~800mm spacing) for a secure connection (suitable for outdoor, vibration environments, or heavy-load scenarios).
Overlap Type: Cover edges overlap (overlap length ≥ 50mm) to improve sealing and wind resistance (for long-distance outdoor cable trays).
3. Sealing Treatment: For outdoor or humid environments, EPDM sealing strips must be installed to ensure waterproofing and dustproofing (IP rating meets standards). 4. Safety Specifications: During installation, the grounding continuity of the cable tray must be checked simultaneously (the cover plate and cable tray must be electrically connected). After fixing, prevent loosening or detachment (especially for high-altitude cable trays).
Typical Application Scenarios
Industrial Sector: Steel plants, automotive workshops (select steel/aluminum alloy covers, resistant to mechanical impact); chemical plants (select fiberglass covers, corrosion resistant).
Civil Buildings: Office buildings, shopping malls (select snap-on PVC/powder-coated steel covers, aesthetically pleasing and lightweight); hospitals, data centers (select lockable fireproof covers, safe and fireproof).
Infrastructure: Subways, tunnels (select fireproof rock wool covers, fire-resistant and moisture-proof); outdoor streetlights, bridges (select rainproof aluminum alloy covers, UV resistant).

Selection Considerations
1. Environmental Conditions: Temperature (high temperature, select fiberglass/stainless steel), humidity (humid conditions, select aluminum alloy/fiberglass), corrosiveness (chemical industry, select FRP/stainless steel).
2. Protection Rating: Outdoor applications require IP54 or higher rainproof rating; cleanrooms require IP65 sealing rating.
3. Fire Safety Requirements: Select fire-resistant covers with the corresponding fire resistance rating according to standards such as GB 5135.1-2019.
4. Load and Cost: Choose steel/stainless steel for heavy loads, PVC/clamp-on aluminum alloy for light loads; choose PVC for limited budgets, and choose fiberglass/aluminum alloy for long-term durability.
Summary: Cable tray covers need to be selected comprehensively considering environment, function, and cost. The core objective is to ensure the safe operation of cables, extend their lifespan, and meet specific requirements of the scenario (such as fire resistance, corrosion resistance, and waterproofing).
